Love … (damn you, Rhino!)

Love "Forever Changes" Collector's EditionThey’ve done it again … the record labels have found yet another way to mess with us little guys. I think that the advent of digital music age has forced them into looking for a new person to screw. Who did they choose? The complete-ists.

I have 6 different copies of Love’s “Forever Changes” – 1st pressing LP, 180g reissue, US CD, US Expanded, Live, and a German pressing that I HAD to have because it has a few extra seconds on the end of “A House is Not A Motel”. (And I have the “Love Story” boxed set, and Love’s “Best Of” both of which have pretty much all of “Forever Changes”.

“What now”, you ask? Rhino is releasing Love’s “Forever Changes: The Collector’s Edition“. You rat bastards! What the hell?! You’re killing me. I’m literally dying on the inside! Slowly but surely, you’re actually sucking all the joy out of being a music fan! Just so you know.

On to the details of the release …

Double CD disc (seriously, if you guys turn around and release this on vinyl in six months, my head will likely explode), with 77 minutes of bonus material.

(Before I go on … how much of this is on “Last Wall of the Castle”? Anyone? Bueller?)

The first disc is the full “Forever Changes” album, remastered. (Um, which I’m a bit confused about, because I think the one they reissued a few years ago was remastered as well). The second disc (the bonus stuff!) comes chock full of backing tracks, alternate versions of the entire album, tracking sessions, remixes, mono mixes, outtakes, etc. Almost all of this second disc is previously unissued material. New liner notes. Rare photos. There’s no avoiding the fact that this is a must have release. Jerks.
